on to the next

(80s disco pantsuit-vintage from held over, shoes-steve madden, gold arm chain-la dama)

i rang in the new year with close friends on a ranch in santa cruz. it was great to be away from the city with our boyfriends and to let our dogs run around on acres of land. it was funny that the girls had an unintentional pantsuit theme going on.

i hope you all had a great start to the new year!

evoking olive oyl

(sweater-vintage, skirt-silence & noise, boots-jeffrey campbell)

it was only inevitable that the tucked maxi would make its way into one of my outfits sooner or later. i mean, how can you not try it when your friends have all done it so well? liz wears it here. aimee wears it here. and christina, she rocks the maxi like no other - and of course here is just one example.

i've been wanting to wear this crochet sweater as a mini dress for ages but never got the chance. and now that sf is officially (ok, unofficially) freezing, i need more coverage.

while i'm still working on collecting new items to go with the things that just don't seem to work with anything else, i've been making compromises with myself - no, encouraging myself - to make up for any lackluster characteristics of my outfit or accessories by doing my hair in different ways. i've mastered braids, so i'm currently going with doing them in new ways. hence the braided ballerina bun. let me tell you, if you have thick or dense hair, this one it tough! i should have recorded the process it took to get this thing to work!

first it was heels, then it was feminine pieces, and now it's hair. slowly but surely i'm conquering little challenges here and there.

sleepy little beach town

(top-h&m, shorts-forever21, shoes-dolce vita, leotard-american apparel, accessories-vintage)

i took a spur of the moment getaway to santa cruz with liz, her boyfriend, and our dogs. it was the first time i went south of san jose since moving to california! they took me all over santa cruz - the west side, east side, mid-town and i think sam said the south side? it's such a beautiful seaside town. our dogs had a wonderful time playing on the beach and at the ranch where we spent time relaxing.

the weather was pretty cloudy and chilly most of the day until randomly in the late afternoon the sun just peaked out from behind the clouds, and soon is was a clear, gorgeous day!

liz and i squeezed in time for some vintage shopping. liz hit the jackpot, and i was just happy to find the perfect worn-in, vintage band tee! the prices for vintage in santa cruz are so much less than san francisco! i'm already eager to return for more as well as picking up some things to decorate my apartment.
